A “Prime” Time to Consider Package Security

Package theft sucks!

But online shopping is awesome! My motto is “why go to the store, if you can buy it online?”  Thank goodness Amazon has made online shopping even awesomer! And they are innovating and adding new products that help insure the safety of your packages.

In the past, if you ordered a package you’d wait like 5-10 days for it to arrive with standard shipping. Today, Amazon, is leading the charge to eliminate this with Prime (free 2-day or overnight shipping for members for $99 / year). Late one evening last week, I ordered something on Prime, and it arrived the next day at lunch. I got my purchase from Amazon before I could have made it to the store. Amazon isn’t stopping there – they’re trying to push the envelope even further by cutting delivery times to a matter of hours with Amazon Prime Now.

Sweet brown meme: Buying stuff at a physical store? Ain't nobody got time for that!

With Amazon, If I order a package on Monday, I know it will be delivered on Tuesday or Wednesday (rather than anytime in the next 5-10 days). This effectively creates a smaller window of opportunity for thieves and makes it easier for me to plan my schedule to be there when the package arrives. However, the problem of package theft isn’t eliminated by the Amazon Prime shipping. There’s still a chance that I can’t be home waiting for a package.

Take this Amazon Package Thief for instance:

So what do you do now?

If you’re going to be doing more online shopping, and if online retailers are going to make delivery more convenient than shopping locally, then we need to think about how to better protect our packages. We created a comparison chart to help you choose the best package-protection solution that’s right for you. After all, an unprotected package is risky.

*Our* ideal solution allows the carrier to leave the package, but also deters a would-be thief. We think that Package Guard is a good solution that does just that. But don’t take our word for it. Check out this very short video.

This is a great idea! I have been looking to upgrade my home security and this looks like the right solution. I cannot wait to see one in operation.
